Rhodia Fan Profile: Tony Thomas

Laurie

Today we are talking with writer Tony Thomas.

tony-thomas-picRD: Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

TT: I am a writer, technologist and broadcaster.  I have been writing professionally for about 40 years. Right now, I write and edit a number of blogs including The Frugal Fountain Pen and Techtrends.  In addition, I have written three short books that are on Amazon.   I have been in broadcasting off and on since the early 1970s.   And, I am a technology addict!   More on me at: http://tonythomas.net/

RD: How and when did you first discover Rhodia products?

TT: I have been a Rhodiaphile for the past four or five years.  Since I also love fountain pens, Rhodia products are a must!

RD 1

RD: Which are your favorite Rhodia products?

TT: The Rhodia Bloc pads are my favorites.  I love the fact that they come in various sizes and styles.  They are my go tos for writing, notes and just about everything else.  And of course, they are a must when using fountain pens.

RD: Do you always use the same product(s) or do you change periodically?

TT: I generally gravitate to certain sized Rhodia Bloc pads.  My current favorites are #11 and #12.  I also use size #14 and larger pads periodically.   I have also used the staple-bound Rhodia notebooks in different sizes.  They are really nice.

RD: Do you use them in any way that is specific to your work?

TT: I recently created a loose leaf document holder notebook.  It allows me to use all kinds of paper and to file and discard notes that I no longer need.  I keep some sheets of custom cut Rhodia paper in there (usually grid) and also use the notebook to store notes created from the bloc pads.  See: http://thefrugalfountainpen.blogspot.com/2016/05/using-my-document-holder-notebook.html

RD: Does using Rhodia products make your job easier in any way? (Do quality tools make the job easier?)

TT: Absolutely!  The Clairefontaine paper used in Rhodia pads is really wonderful.  No feathering and bleed when used with fountain pen inks.  It is light years better than most of the paper on the market.

RD: Pencil, pen, or other? Favorites?

TT: I use fountain pens the most.  Current favorites are a Franklin-Christoph 02 and a Karas Kustoms “Ink”.  I also love Japanese fountain pens from Pilot and Platinum.  In addition, I use pencils for drafts–both woodcase (HB, H, F, B, 2B) and in lead holders.  Gel pens also get a workout.  Primarily Japanese extra-fine Unis and Pilots in various colors.

RD: Where do you regularly purchase Rhodia products?

TT: I buy them locally at Dick Blick and on the Internet from various retailers including Jet Pens, Goulet and iPenStore.

RD: Is there any way we could improve on your favorite product?

TT: I would love to see better availability of the Rhodia Ice bloc pads.  I love the light gray graph ruling!
