RD: Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

ML: Hi Rhodia Drive, thanks for having me!  I am a stay-at-home dad with my three young children, an international tax accountant, and last year I started a blog that focuses on folios and everything that goes in them. I’m new to the stationary blog scene, but I have always loved good notebooks, pens, pencils, padfolios, and notebook folios.  I have also been working on creating a new notebook folio that will hold almost any A5 size notebook (5.5 x 8.75) as well as a tablet like an iPad mini.

RD: How and when did you first discover Rhodia products?

ML: I listen to the Pen Addict Podcast and heard about the quality of the Rhodia paper through Mr. Dowdy.  I enjoy using fountain pens to take work notes and so far I have enjoyed the grid layout.

RD: Which are your favorite Rhodia products?

ML: I find the N18 Staplebound Notepad is perfect for taking notes as I work through a tax return and the flip top helps keep my previous notes available, without getting in the way.  I also use the Webnotebooks for one-on-one meetings.

RD: Do you always use the same product(s) or do you change periodically?

ML: I am always looking for new products to test out and see what pens/pencils work with each paper.  I also believe that using the right tools for each situation can help make a positive difference.  It’s like getting new running shoes to train for a race, it helps encourage me to go running.  Keeping track of important details and staying organized is easier when I have nice paper and pens to use.

RD: Do you use them in any way that is specific to your work?

ML: With how busy my days can be, I need to keep things organized.  I use a modified Bullet Journal system that incorporates David Allen’s, Getting Things Done.  To stay calm with ever changing schedules, it is nice to have analog notebooks to keep my projects and ventures on track.

RD: Does using Rhodia products make your job easier in any way? (Do quality tools make the job easier?)

ML: In face-to-face meetings, having tools that stand out can help create a great way to break the ice.  Most professionals typically use their own office stationery when meeting clients, so to show up with a good quality product makes an impression.  I have seen this over and over in my dealings and especially when I find someone that is equally interested in stationery.  I posted a blog entry about how anyone can upgrade their regular padfolio for less than $20, which includes the Rhodia notepad.

RD: Pencil, pen, or other? Favorites?

ML: In high school I learned technical drawing and I still prefer drafting pencils to this day like the Staedtler 925 with an HB lead, or their 2mm Technico Lead Holder.  For pens, I prefer my pilot fountain pen, and I just ordered a Lamy Al-Star to start using.

RD: Where do you regularly purchase Rhodia products?

ML: Jetpens.com is a great site, but I also look for stationary stores when I travel.  My latest shop where I stocked up is the Paper Place in Austin TX. The cashier let me try out her Pilot Vanishing Point and it is just as good as I would have hoped on the Rhodia paper.

RD: Is there any way we could improve on your favorite product?

ML: Perhaps using FSC 100% recycled paper?  I know this can cause issues with paper quality, but it would be a nice option in the future.
