Rhodia in Kuching, Borneo

Stephanie

I am not sure you all have met Cecilia yet – she is Exaclair’s Product Marketing Manager and also a frequent poster to our Rhodia Drive Facebook page. She sent me the image along with some stories from her recent journey…..

“Above is the picture of a Rhodia staplebound notebook taken from the Hilton in Kuching, the capital and largest city of the East Malaysian state of Sarawak, as well as the largest city on the island of Borneo. What you see is the Sarawak river and the golden building is the new Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building. The view was stunning and inspiring, a great setting for a Rhodia notebook!

A little background info about the city which I found rather charming and explains why the city is full of cat statues and why they worship the animal: Kuching, is thought to derive from the Malay word kucing, meaning cat. Many of the locals refer to Kuching as the “Cat City” but it more likely comes from the Chinese word for port (“cochin”) coupled with the Malay name mata kucing (cat’s-eye) for the longan fruit, a popular trade item.”
